ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਓ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਲੁ ਪਹੂਚਿਓ ਆਨਿ ॥ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਰ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਨ ਭਜੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੪॥ biradhh bhaeiou soojhai nehee kaal pehoochiou aan || kahu naanak nar baavarae kio n bhajai bhagavaan ||4|| translation: you have become old, and you do not understand that death is overtaking you. says nanak, you are insane! why do you not remember and meditate on god? ||4||
Ik oankaar satgur prasaadh ||salok mehalaa 9 || ਤਰਨਾਪੋ ਇਉ ਹੀ ਗਇਓ ਲੀਓ ਜਰਾ ਤਨੁ ਜੀਤਿ ॥ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਾ ਅਉਧ ਜਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਬੀਤਿ ॥੩॥ tharanaapo eio hee gaeiou leeou jaraa than jeeth || kahu naanak bhaj har manaa aoudhh jaath hai beeth ||3|| your youth has passed away like this, and old age has overtaken your body. says nanak, meditate, vibrate upon the lord; your life is fleeting away! ||3||

Nanak dukhiya sab sansaar ll so sukhiya jin naam adhaar ll ~ guru nank dev ji translation: every human being is unhappy, only the one who remembers god at all times is happy!

ਅਨੰਦ ਭਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ।। anand bha-i-aa mayree maa-ay satguroo mai paa-i-aa. ~ guru amar dass ji (anand sahib) translation: o my mother, i am in joy, because i have met the true master. true master, can be his preceding guru angad dev the second guru, or even guru nanak dev, and it can as well mean waheguru: god)!
Nanak naam chardi kalaa; tayray bhane sarbat da bhalaa! these words invoke four principles that will stand us well in today's flat, interconnected world: naam: get in touch with the universal divine spirit in all of us. chardi kalaa: an attitude of hope and optimism, and a can-do spirit, free from anger or hatred. tere bhaane: live in harmony with the divine order, with nature and with each other. sarbat da bhalaa: pray for, and work towards, the common good of all!

Satgur ta paa-i-aa sahj saytee man vajee-aa vaadhaa-ee-aa ।। raag ratan parvaar paree-aa sabad gaavan aa-ee-aa ।। anand sahib o my mother, i am in joy, because i have met the true master. i have found the true master easily by his kindness, and my mind is in joy: bliss!
Waheguru means wahe is amazing in punjabi from wah gu is darkness in persian ru is light in persian so waheguru collectively means - the amazing lord who brings us from darkness to light!
