Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is inspired from the column 'Duniya Ne Undha Chasma' written by the well-known Gujarati writer Taarak Mehta. The show represents the relatable lives of an average Indian, intricately merging comedy with social issues. Set in Gokuldham Society, the story captures the lives of six Indian families, who are from different corners of the country. The characters try to deal with the everyday realities with a dose of humor. Jethalal Champaklal Gada (Dilip Joshi) and his wife Daya Gada (Disha Vakani) share their society with Taarak Mehta (Shailesh Joshi), who is his friend and philosopher. The society is made vibrant by the presence of Aatmaram Tukaram Bhide, Dr. Hansraj Hathi, Sardar Roshan Singh Harjeet Singh Sodhi, Krishnan Subramaniam Iyer, Patrakar Popatlal Pandey - a bachelor- and a teenager Pinku.
